Ondo Assembly Passes Bill For Creation Of New LCDAs

Breaking News!

Ondo State House of Assembly, has just passed the bill for creation of 33 New Local Council Development Areas into Law.

The Assembly passed the bill after passing 3rd reading at Assembly Plenary today 15th August,2023.

The newly created Local Council Development Areas are to co-exist with the existing eighteen Local Governments in the state.

The governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN had earlier transmitted a bill for the creation of thirty-three Local Council Development Areas to the House for ratification.

The proposal was subjected to a public hearing after being committed to the Committee of the whole House.

Presenting the report of the committee at plenary on Tuesday, the Deputy Speaker, Rt Honourable Prince Abayomi Akinruntan stressed the need to consider the cultural homogeneity of the people in boundary demarcation of the new LCDAs adding that the state Surveyor General should be mindful of this.

Majority Leader of the House, Honourable Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole moved a motion for the passage of the bill into law and was seconded by Honourable (Dr) Ogunlana Christopher.

In his ruling, the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Oladiji Olamide Adesanmi commended the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for the creation of the new LCDAs.

Oladiji thanked Honourable members for taking their time to attend to the all important bill before it was passed into law.

The Speaker expressed optimism that all noticeable observations and recommendations by the House will be effected as appropriate.

He appealed to people of Ondo State to keep hope alive and eschew acts that could generate undue rancour which can jeopardise the reigning peace in the state.

” Let me appeal to the good people of Ondo State to please keep their hope alive as current position of the House is not an end in itself but a means to a positive end.”

The passage of the LCDA Bill into law, brings to fifty-one the total number of Local Councils in Ondo state.
