FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

*House of Representatives Celebrates Speaker Abbas on His Birthday and Conferment of National Honour*

*Abuja, FCT | Tuesday, October 1, 2024 -* The House of Representatives today celebrates an exemplary leader, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the 10th Assembly, on the occasion of his birthday and conferment of a national honour on him.

Speaker Abbas has consistently demonstrated the qualities of a nation-builder through his humility, accessibility, and extraordinary capacity for consensus-building. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding the most politically diverse House in the 4th Republic, bringing about meaningful legislative innovations and ensuring that all voices are represented in the democratic process.

As the fourth citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Speaker Abbas continues to discharge his duties with great responsibility and vision, championing reforms that advance the interests of all Nigerians. His leadership style is inclusive and characterised by a steady hand that fosters unity and cooperation among members of the Assembly.

We also take pride in celebrating the recent conferment of the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Speaker Abbas by the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. This prestigious award is a fitting tribute to a distinguished statesman whose contributions to the progress of our nation are invaluable. His legacy of service continues to inspire not only this Assembly but also the entire nation.

True to his character, Speaker Abbas has chosen to mark his birthday by spending time with vulnerable Nigerians in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. This selfless gesture reflects his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the marginalised and his deep sense of responsibility as a servant-leader.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, CON, stated, “On this special day, I applaud your selfless and inclusive leadership, as well as your steadfast commitment to serving our nation with utmost humility.

“Since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly in June 2023, you have demonstrated profound dedication to advancing our democracy and promoting good governance through effective legislation,” he added.

As we commemorate this special occasion, the House of Representatives expresses its profound gratitude to Speaker Abbas, a worthy leader, for his tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to the cause of nation-building. His leadership continues to inspire us as we pursue our collective legislative mandate for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Signed:

*Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr.*
House Spokesman
