Leadership Lecture: Don’t Run Govt of Contractor But Run Govt of The People, Femi Falana Tells Aiyedatiwa.

Ondo State government has Organised a public lecture in honour of the Former Governor, late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu-SAN CON, with theme: Security Sector Reform in Promoting peace, stability and Development, the Ondo state example, under the Chairmanship of elder state man Basorun Seinde Arogbofa -OFR. The lecture which was delivered by a human rights activist Lawyer, .Barrister Femi Falana- SAN. The event was held at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure.
The epoch programme was packaged by the current governor in the state His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa was meant to recognised the leadership courage and bold step taking by the former Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo in establishing the Ondo State Security Network Agency codename Amotekun at the pick of the insurgency that was ravaging the entire country then and the emergence of the corps in collaboration with others sisters agencies in the state were able to restored peace and normalcy in the state.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the SUBEB, Hon. Victor Olabimtan said we are here today to delivered a series lecture to celebrate the late governor of the state. He said the current governor had been promoting the legacy of the Akeredolu. He explained that this governor had been promoting the programme and policies of his former Boss and that when Lucky will take the oath of the office come February 25th, 2025, he too would have his own legacy. He urged the people to listen attentively to the guest lecturer on the topic .
Basorun Seinde Arogbofa
From the words of the Chairman of the occasion, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa -OFR . He said the security of life and property has been the primary concern of the state government and called for the state police. He said the Buhari government did nothing to the establishment of state police. He eulogised the efforts of the Akeredolu for creating the Amotekun and while the governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa sustained the temple. He said everyone is a leader in his own capacity.He appreciate the Mr Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for organizing this kind of lecture to honour his Boss as a way of respect for him. He said Akeredolu caught the Bull by the horns when the insecurity was at the pick in the state.
GUEST SPEAKER -FEMI FALANA’S WISDOM.
According to the invited Guest speaker, Barrister Femi Falana-SAN said he was delighted to be in the midst of the great programme and that he was disturbed by the fact that Akeredolu family was disassociated from this kind of programme. He advised that when next another series of this programme will be held, he said the government should try and reach out to the family in order to have a one united lecture for the Akeredolu.
He said Akeredolu was very courageous even before the Judges when he discovered that they are not doing the right thing. He made reference to how Akeredolu was instrumental to the development of the people while he was in the school and in the government particularly how he dered the Federal Government of Nigeria in establishing the Amotekun Corps by enacting the law that would establish the Corps.
Speaking further, the speaker said that the whole 36 State governors in the country have come together to approved state police and that no state in the federation have produced six merit awards like ondo state has done. He said until the government controls poverty and put an end to the unemployment in Nigeria, insecurity would continue to persist.He said the death of 115 Nigerians in the recent unfortunate incident in Ibadan, Abuja and Okija in Anambra that Police were to be blamed because they fails to protect the people.
He called for the Federal government to pay compensation for the families that lost their lives in those incidents because of the failures of the police responsibilities to provide security for the people. He said for government to have security in the country, they must provide good education, employment and made food available for the citizens before they can have perfect peace in the state.He said! Nigeria spent 26.2 billion naira to import goods to Nigeria last year. He said Nigeria should be talking of currency swap in order to fight the strong dominant Dollar.
The speaker advised the state government to take the cocoa boom now in the state . He asked the governor to set up factory for the cocoa production for the purpose of creating jobs for us to be exporting chocolate and others produce of the cocoa. He asked the governor to give free education for all our children both physically challenged people. He said the NHIS must be allowed to work in the state . He also, called the government to provide social security for all the good people of the state by building Houses for them.He called for the reorganisations of our educational system particularly the technical education for our children to be properly skilled in the technical industry.
He said the challenges before Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa was the government of continuity. He said he should not run the government of contractor but he should run the government of the people. He said the governor should let people benefit from his government and that Ondo state was one of the richest state in Nigeria.
