EFCC Honours Slain Officer by Naming Academy Building in His Memory

In a poignant moment of remembrance and respect, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) honored one of its fallen heroes, Assistant Superintendent Aminu Sahabi Salisu, by naming the administrative block of its Academy in Karu, Abuja, after him. The tribute comes after Salisu’s tragic death while on official assignment, paying the ultimate price in the service of the nation.

Speaking at the Annual Rewards and Recognition Ceremony on January 25, 2025, in Abuja, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, expressed deep sorrow over Salisu’s loss. “He was a gallant officer,” Olukoyede said, emphasizing that his memory would forever be etched in the hearts of his colleagues. “The administrative block of the Academy is hereby named after him as a lasting tribute to his courage and dedication.”

The ceremony, which took place at the EFCC Academy, also celebrated the outstanding achievements of 36 officers across various categories. The awards included honors for the section with the highest recovery, highest conviction, best departmental staff, and even the coveted Staff of the Year award. Among the top recipients was Chief Superintendent Alvan Gurumnaan, who was named Staff of the Year, and the Sokoto Zonal Directorate, which was recognized as the Best Directorate of the Year.

Olukoyede congratulated all the winners, urging them to continue striving for excellence. “Excellence is not about doing things right once in a while, but about doing things right all the time,” he said. The EFCC Chairman also revealed that 900 staff members had been promoted and announced the reinstatement of life and property insurance for all personnel.

In a stern reminder of the Commission’s core values, Olukoyede warned against any compromise of integrity, underscoring that ongoing internal reforms would leave no room for complacency. “The internal cleansing going on in the Commission will spare no one,” he declared.

As the ceremony unfolded, the EFCC not only celebrated its current successes but also paid tribute to a fallen officer whose sacrifice will never be forgotten.
