Governor Aiyedatiwa Confident of Victory as Ondo Gubernatorial Election Tribunal Opens
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has expressed unwavering confidence in the legitimacy of his victory in the November 16, 2024 governorship election, as the Ondo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal began its inaugural sitting in Akure on Friday. Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed that the overwhelming support he received from the people, winning in all 18 local government areas, is a testament to the trust and confidence they place in his leadership.
Describing the election as free, fair, and historic, the Governor stated, “For the first time, a candidate won in all 18 local government areas, and that alone speaks volumes about the people’s will and trust in my leadership.”
The tribunal, led by Justice Nelson Ugubu, will now address petitions filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who have challenged Aiyedatiwa’s electoral victory. The PDP has named 43 witnesses to support its allegations of electoral malpractice.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, while attending the tribunal session, emphasized his keen interest in observing the judiciary’s role in the process, noting that his participation was an opportunity for continued learning. “There’s nothing to worry about. I’m here to witness and learn from this process,” he remarked.
The tribunal has adjourned until February 10th for further proceedings.
