Governor Aiyedatiwa Grants Clemency to 43 Prisoners in a Historic Move

In a landmark move that highlights his dedication to justice and reform, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has granted clemency to 43 prisoners. This decision, which marks his swearing-in today, was made following recommendations from the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, led by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s action underscores his commitment to rehabilitative justice. As part of the clemency initiative, 8 individuals have been released from prison, while 15 condemned inmates, previously sentenced to death by hanging, have had their sentences reduced to prison terms. Furthermore, 20 life-sentenced convicts now face less severe penalties.

Dr. Ajulo emphasized that this decision reflects the Governor’s belief in second chances and his vision for a justice system that incorporates mercy and human dignity. The Governor’s move also aims to address challenges within the penal system and support the reintegration of inmates into society.
