PDP Hails Leke Adegbite’s Re-election as Ondo NUJ Chairman, Urges Crackdown on Media Quackery

April 10, 2025 — Akure, Ondo State

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated Prince Leke Adegbite on his re-election as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, praising his first-term achievements and expressing confidence in his continued leadership.

In a statement released Thursday by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, the PDP commended Adegbite’s performance in his initial tenure, describing it as outstanding and promising. The party said it has no doubt that his second term will deepen and consolidate the progress already made within the union.

However, the PDP also used the opportunity to raise concerns about the growing influence of untrained individuals in the media space, accusing them of compromising journalistic standards for personal gain.

The statement urged the NUJ Chairman to “beam his searchlight” on these “media quacks” whose activities, according to the party, threaten the integrity of journalism and the health of Nigeria’s democracy.

“As one of the major pillars upon which constitutional democracy rests, being the fourth estate of the realm,” the PDP noted, “it is imperative to promote investigative journalism and unbiased reporting by rooting out those who serve merely as public relations tools for the highest bidder.”

The party further pledged its commitment to working with the NUJ leadership under Adegbite, expressing optimism that such collaboration will enhance democratic values and improve the lives of the citizenry.
