Ondo Police Clamp Down on Unlawful Chieftaincy Installation in Ijare, Reaffirm Commitment to Law and Order

Akure, May 8, 2025

The Ondo State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state following the unlawful installation of Adekolajo Aladeseyi as the Olujare of Ijare, in Ifedore Local Government Area.

Acting on the directive of the Ondo State Government, the Command swiftly responded to what it described as a breach of the Chieftaincy Law and Edict, emphasizing that the installation was carried out without the required approval from the Local Government and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs.

According to a press release issued today by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, Mr. Aladeseyi and his collaborators were invited to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on May 7, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., where they were informed of the directive for their arrest and prosecution.

The suspects were subsequently arraigned before High Court 3 in Akure and have since been remanded in police custody pending further legal proceedings.

To prevent further unrest and maintain public peace in Ijare, tactical police teams have been deployed to the area. The community is reportedly calm and under strict surveillance by security personnel.

“The Ondo State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to enforcing all laws, particularly those governing traditional institutions and public order,” the statement read. “Any individual or group found violating these laws will face the full weight of justice.”

Residents of Ijare and the general public have been urged to remain law-abiding and support efforts to maintain peace and stability across the state. The Command assured that the security successes achieved in Ondo State will be preserved through professional and decisive law enforcement.

Further updates will be communicated as events unfold.
