National Assembly to Hold Special Joint Sitting for 2025 Democracy Day
June 8, 2025 —The House of Representatives has confirmed its participation in a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, as part of events marking this year’s Democracy Day.
The announcement was made via an internal memo from the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., and was officially disclosed by the Office of the House Spokesman on Sunday.
The Joint Sitting, which will take place in the House of Representatives Chamber at the National Assembly Complex, is expected to begin at 11:00 a.m. with early proceedings. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is slated to arrive by 12:00 noon and will deliver a Presidential Address to the National Assembly.
The theme of the 2025 Democracy Day celebration is “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.” The event will also feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of National Honours on select legislators by the President.
Described as a “significant moment” in Nigeria’s democratic history, the Joint Sitting aims to highlight the role of the legislature in upholding democratic values, promoting accountability, and driving national progress.
The House of Representatives has encouraged all Nigerians to observe the occasion in the spirit of unity and renewed patriotism, calling on citizens to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and recommit to building a more inclusive and prosperous future
