The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspects in connection with the killing of an operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Itanla community, Ondo town.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the NDLEA operative was gunned down in the early hours of Tuesday, July 23, during an official operation in Akinnawonu area of the community.

Following the incident, the police immediately swung into action, mobilizing operatives to the crime scene. The prompt response led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of a single-barrel firearm believed to have been used in the attack.

Describing the development as a “significant breakthrough,” the Command said it remains resolute in bringing the perpetrators to justice, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.

“This proactive response underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to upholding the mission and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, which promotes people-centered policing that is professional, accountable, and law-driven,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Lawal Adebowale, reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to clamp down on violent crimes, particularly attacks on security personnel, while assuring residents of continued safety efforts.

The Command urged the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible information, promising to provide further updates on the investigation.

E-signed: DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, PPRO, Ondo State Police Command.
