Police Warn Against Criminal Acts Disguised as Aregbe (Dudu) Festival in Akure

Akure, August 14, 2025 — The Ondo State Police Command has issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to exploit the forthcoming Aregbe (Dudu) Festival in Akure to engage in violence, theft, vandalism, or any other criminal activity.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, the Command reiterated its respect for the cultural heritage of the people while insisting that all festivities must remain within the boundaries of the law.

The CP emphasized that any act aimed at disrupting public peace or reversing security gains in the state will be met with “the full weight of the law,” warning that anyone found harassing, assaulting, or molesting law-abiding citizens under the guise of the festival will be arrested and prosecuted.

Parents and guardians have been urged to caution their children and wards, ensuring responsible conduct during the celebrations.

The Command also commended the Deji of Akure, HRM Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II, for his efforts in safeguarding the cultural values of the Akure Kingdom, and expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for their support in maintaining peace and stability in the state.

While felicitating with the Deji, the Kingdom, and all festival participants, the police reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, ensuring the Aregbe Festival is celebrated in an atmosphere of peace, unity, and lawful conduct.
