Ondo CP Inspects 150 Owo Security Network Operatives Undergoing Police Training

By Exponent News, Akure – 15th August, 2025

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abayomi Adebowale Lawal, PSC+, MNIPS, has inspected the newly formed Owo Security Network operatives currently undergoing specialized training under the Nigeria Police Force in Owo Local Government Area.

The community-driven initiative, conceived by Hon. Omolayo Tope, Executive Chairman of Owo Local Government Council, is designed to complement police efforts in safeguarding lives and property across the council area. A total of 150 operatives, constituting the first batch, are undergoing rigorous training, while two subsequent batches of 150–200 operatives each are expected to follow.

According to CP Lawal, the operatives will not only perform visible patrol duties but also covertly gather intelligence to aid police operations, especially as the ember months — a period often associated with heightened criminal activity — approach. He stressed that the Command is adopting proactive strategies to forestall insecurity, promising sustained training and capacity building while upholding the rights and freedoms of citizens.

The CP emphasized that the program reflects the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s vision of people-centered policing, transparency, and community engagement. He appreciated both the IGP and Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for their support, urging other local governments to adopt similar security initiatives.

Hon. Omolayo Tope, in his remarks, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa and Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami for backing the project and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies.

The inspection was witnessed by notable community leaders, including representatives of Olowo, Ojomu-Oluda, Olupele, Olu-Ihnan, Oluyere, and Ilale I and II, as well as key security stakeholders such as ACP Farook Olujimi Raheem, Area Commander Owo; FRSC Unit Commander, Olufunsho Ogunwumi; and the Divisional Police Officers of Owo A and B Divisions.
