NOA Sensitises RUGIPOLY Students on National Values, Responsible Citizenship

By Exponent News Akure 2nd October,2025

In a renewed effort to foster civic responsibility and promote national unity, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has held a sensitisation programme for students and staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, focusing on value reorientation and responsible citizenship.

The event, which forms part of NOA’s nationwide campaign across five critical thematic areas—value reorientation, dangers of extreme sign-out practices, security consciousness, civic responsibility, and respect for national symbols—aims to reshape societal attitudes and reinforce patriotic values among Nigerian youths.

Addressing participants, the Ondo State Director of NOA, Mr. James Adekunle, underscored the importance of discipline, integrity, and patriotism in driving national development. He decried the growing trend of extreme sign-out celebrations among graduating students, calling it a deviation from Nigeria’s cultural norms. Mr. Adekunle urged students to embrace modesty and responsible behavior, noting that positive conduct reflects sound national values.

He also encouraged the academic community to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, while highlighting government initiatives such as the Student Loan Scheme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), which are designed to support students in achieving their educational goals.

In his remarks, the Registrar of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Mr. Olaye, praised NOA for the impactful initiative, describing the engagement as timely and thought-provoking. He noted that the session had deepened participants’ understanding of values as a foundation for personal growth and national development.

The interactive session featured active participation from both students and staff, reinforcing key messages around civic duty, social responsibility, and the need for a unified national identity.
