NUC Approves New Degree and Postgraduate Programmes for OAUSTECH

31st October,2025

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, to introduce three new undergraduate programmes and postgraduate degrees in two engineering departments.

In a letter dated October 23, 2025, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Alhaji Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, the NUC conveyed its authorization for the new academic offerings.

The newly approved undergraduate programmes are:

B.Sc. Cyber Security

B.Sc. Marine Science

B.Sc. Meteorology

At the postgraduate level, the University received approval to run:

Postgraduate Diploma, M.Eng, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering

Postgraduate Diploma, M.Eng, and Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, hailed the approval as a validation of OAUSTECH’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation. He said the new programmes would equip students with relevant skills for global competitiveness and strengthen the University’s position as a leading science and technology institution.

“I appreciate the NUC for its confidence in our academic standards. This approval motivates us to keep improving in teaching, research, and community service,” Ologunorisa stated.

Also commenting, the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, described the approval as a major milestone in the University’s growth trajectory. She lauded the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and the Governing Council chaired by Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju for their dedication to advancing OAUSTECH’s academic profile.

The University noted that the new programmes, particularly Marine Science, would benefit the coastal communities around Okitipupa and its environs by creating fresh academic and career opportunities. Admissions into the newly approved undergraduate courses will commence once they appear on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
