News: Tinubu Orders Nationwide Campaign Following Niger Tanker Explosion
President Bola Tinubu has instructed the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to launch a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of collecting fuel from fallen tankers and the environmental hazards associated with such practices.
This directive follows the tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State, on Saturday, which resulted in the loss of over 80 lives and left many others injured.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed his deep condolences to the victims’ families and the people and government of Niger State.
The statement further noted: “The President has ordered the provision of immediate medical care for the injured and directed security and road safety agencies to implement measures to prevent similar tragedies. He urges all citizens to exercise caution and stay clear of accident scenes, particularly those involving fuel tankers due to their volatile nature.
Additionally, President Tinubu has tasked the National Orientation Agency with rolling out an extensive public education campaign to highlight the grave risks and environmental consequences of scooping fuel from fallen tankers.”
