Abuja, February 10, 2025 – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON, has expressed profound sadness over the tragic deaths of 10 tomato traders from Zaria, who were killed in an attack by armed bandits. The incident took place while the traders, traveling from Danmagaji Market, were returning from Katsina and Zamfara states with goods.

According to reports, the traders were ambushed by bandits at Takoki village in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State. In a desperate bid to escape, the driver of the truck carrying the traders reversed at high speed, causing the vehicle to plunge off a bridge. The violent attack resulted in the death of 10 traders, with seven others suffering various injuries. Five traders are also feared to have been kidnapped by the bandits. Furthermore, the traders’ goods, valued at 60 million Naira, were destroyed.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas condemned the attack in the strongest terms, calling for heightened security measures to rescue the kidnapped victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Speaker expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for the souls of the victims.
