In a recent gathering aimed at addressing the challenges faced by farmers in Ondo State, officials outlined new regulations designed to improve the legal structure surrounding farming practices. The meeting highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to prevent farmers from constructing buildings or erecting structures within forest reserves, a practice that has been prohibited under state law.

For years, previous administrations had destroyed such buildings, but the current government has turned the situation around. Leveraging the weaknesses of the past administration, the government now aims to generate additional revenue while ensuring that rules are followed.

Ajayi Oluwafemi, a key official in the effort, confirmed that machinery has been put in place to enforce these new rules, with plans to deploy enforcement teams as early as tomorrow. He emphasized the importance of proper data capture before any fines or payments are made by farmers.

“We must ensure that any payments made by farmers are properly documented and justified. We cannot accept payments for structures that aren’t properly recorded,” he explained. “Before any payment is made, we will capture the details of the building to ensure fairness.”

Oluwafemi urged farmers to comply with the new regulations, assuring them that enforcement actions would be transparent and in line with the law. The message was clear: compliance with legal frameworks is key to moving forward and preventing unnecessary disruptions to farming activities.
