Police Commissioner Addresses Viral Video Controversy, Urges Public to Remain Calm
By Exponent News Akure, 24th March, 2025
The Commissioner of Police has spoken out about a viral video sparking controversy in the Odogun community under Idoani in Ose Local Government, urging the public to disregard misleading narratives and trust in the police’s commitment to justice.
During a press briefing on March 24, 2025, the Commissioner outlined the background of the ongoing conflict involving one Jide Falade, a man claiming to be a retired Navy Captain. Falade has allegedly terrorized the local community for years, and despite multiple peace initiatives, tensions have escalated, culminating in violent confrontations. The police have arrested Falade, who now faces 10 criminal charges.
The viral video, which purportedly shows police officers involved in theft, has fueled public outcry. However, the Commissioner dismissed the allegations, asserting that no formal complaints had been filed with the police regarding stolen property. He called for an end to sensational headlines, urging media outlets to focus on facts and the pursuit of peace at the same time report accurately.
Speaking, the CP said , all I will say is that if you read in between the lines, you will see that some of the person will likely be a sympathiser to his call chased away our men before our arrival , and as a result, took advantage of the situation to achieve some mischievous goals, and nothing more than that. So, all I will say is that for now, until a report is brought to us here, we are enjoying members of the public to disregard whatever it is that is being circulated. The Nigeria Police is a disciplined organisation, and I cannot imagine an inspector descending so low to that extent of stealing cheap phones for whatever reason.
According to the CP, “So, I see some element of somebody who just wants to be mischievous, because maybe somebody who is affiliated to, is being dealt with according to the laws of the land. And on this final note, let me put it, that the police have no interest in whatever chieftaincy matter, conflict that is ongoing there, in the Odogun .One of the meetings we had, I advised him, that instead of you saying you want to remove the paramour ruler of that place in an unorthodox manner, the governor is there, the judiciary is there, the House of Assembly is there.
Why not take your matter to them, instead of mobilising youths to take laws into their hands, to achieve your goals. So, that is the explanation I can give on this matter, this video that has gone viral.”
“Until a report is filed, we are advising the public to disregard the video and maintain trust in the police’s investigation,” the Commissioner stated, emphasizing the discipline and integrity of the police force.
