The meeting which is the last under the current administration was well attended by members across all chapels of the union and presided over by the Chairman of the council, Prince Leke Adegbite.

1. Being the last congress for the current state executives of the union, the Chairman expressed deep appreciations to all members of the union for their cooperation, support and united tendency he had enjoyed in the last three years.

2. Prince Adegbite specifically thanked other members of the state executive for the harmonious and seamless working relationship, noting that such cooperation has greatly enhanced the unity and progress of the council.

The Congress thereafter deliberated on wide range of issues; from politics, economy, security, heath to welfare of members among others; and resolved as follows:

4. That the Congress notes with satisfaction the swift response of the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa over the recent security challenges in the state, especially by setting up of a Joint Task Force on Security, but urged the state Government to provide security agencies with necessary facilities and tools like vehicles, drones, trackers and other logistics to enable them combat crimes effectively.

The Congress also enjoined Mr Governor to recruit more officers and provide more vehicles for the State Security Network codenamed, Amotekun Corps.

2. That the Congress also called for synergy and proper co-ordination of purpose among security agencies to enable them tackle headlong the issue of insecurity in the state.

3. That the Congress noted with empathy the degenerating health facilities across the state, and the trauma of patients in accessing quality and affordable health services; calling on the state Governor to declare a State Of Emergency on the state health sector.

4. That Ondo NUJ notes with dismay the flagrant and public sales of coffins/Caskets at the premises of the UNIMEDTH, Akure Annex montuary directly opposite the Out Patient Department OPD, and close to the Emergency Unit of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital (Akure Annex/ FUTA TEACHING HOSPITAL) and called on the state government to urgently order the relocation of the Caskets shop by a private operator from the hospital to save psychology meltdown among patients.

5. That the Congress also called on the State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to reactivate the quarterly Media Chat “Meet the Governor” programme to keep the people of the state and beyond abreast of his Programmes and policies.

6. That the Union applauds Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approving recruitments of teachers for Primary and Secondary schools in the state, urging the political class to ensure that those employed are deployed to the rural areas.
