NSCDC Ondo Secures 7-Year Jail Term in ₦1.3m Fraud Case

By Exponent News Akure, 16th April, 2025

In a major legal victory against financial crime, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has secured a seven-year jail term for two fraudsters involved in an advance fee fraud case. The verdict was delivered by the Federal High Court, Akure Judicial Division, on April 10, 2025, in favour of the Attorney General of the Federation.

The convicts, Akpu Kelechi and Eze Henry Ogbonna, were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence.

According to the case presented in court, the duo fraudulently obtained the sum of ₦1,300,000.00 from one Mr. Odubu Fred Brown under the guise of investing the funds in a business venture known as Coin Mine Investment. They claimed the investment would yield a 30% return within 10 days.

The investment promise was a hoax, and several unsuspecting individuals were defrauded by the scheme, which turned out to be a classic case of financial scam.

The defendants were charged under Sections 8(a) and 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, Cap A6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006, and the offences are punishable under Sections 1(1)(a) and 1(3) of the same Act.

Honourable Justice T.B. Adegoke found both defendants guilty on the two-count charge and sentenced them to seven years imprisonment each.
