LEAD: In a stirring message delivered on May 4, 2025, Pastor Adeboye urged young people to embrace their divine inheritance and strive for greatness through faith, diligence, and unwavering focus, declaring that “greatness flows like a river through generations.”

FULL STORY:

At a Sunday gathering marked by conviction and personal testimony, Pastor Adeboye encouraged students and young believers to pursue a life of exceptional greatness—spiritually and practically. Drawing from Genesis 30:43 and the lives of biblical patriarchs like Isaac and Jacob, he emphasized that generational blessings can begin with one determined individual.

“My real name is Adejare” he shared. “And by the grace of God, that name has now become a banner of blessing. If there is no greatness in your generation, it can start with you.”

He outlined four key traits that led to Jacob’s remarkable success: blessing, focus, diligence, and prayer. Urging students to define their goals early, he recalled his own childhood in 1955, when poverty couldn’t deter his determination to pursue education. “I told my parents I wouldn’t eat until they found my school deposit,” he recalled. “By the third day, they did.”

He warned against spiritual laziness masked as devotion, cautioning students not to rely on prayer alone without study. “The Holy Spirit reminds you of what you have learned, not what you skipped,” he quipped. The pastor further highlighted Jacob’s commitment in prayer, referencing his wrestling with an angel in Genesis 32: “He prayed until heaven had no choice but to respond.”

Adeboye closed with a reminder of God’s sovereign hand on destinies, invoking Romans 9 and Galatians 3 to affirm that true Christians are heirs to Abraham’s blessings. “Your destiny is settled. You are not going to die young,” he declared, calling on all present to give their lives to Christ if they hadn’t already.

Call to Action: “You must decide,” he said in closing. “If you belong to Jesus Christ—not pretending—whether the devil likes it or not, you will be great.”
