Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection and empowerment of children as Nigeria marked the 2025 National Children’s Day. Addressing a large gathering of schoolchildren, parents, teachers, and stakeholders in Akure, the governor declared a zero-tolerance stance on bullying and called on all members of society to join forces in building a safer, more inclusive future for every child.

In a speech filled with optimism and urgency, Aiyedatiwa said: “It gladdens my heart to rejoice with our children as we mark this year’s Children’s Day, not just in Ondo State but across Nigeria. This celebration is not merely ceremonial—it is a national moment of reflection and responsibility.”

The governor emphasized the theme of this year’s celebration, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” as a clarion call to action. “Children deserve safe environments to grow, learn, and thrive—free from intimidation, prejudice, and abuse,” he stated.

Highlighting the grave impact of bullying, Governor Aiyedatiwa warned that it could leave lasting scars—emotionally, physically, and academically. “It erodes self-worth and stifles dreams. But today and every day forward, Ondo State says: No more bullying.”

The governor charged all sectors of society—including parents, teachers, religious leaders, and traditional institutions—to take responsibility for nurturing children and advocating for their rights. He also encouraged children to speak up for themselves and others, assuring them their voices matter.

“Empathy and kindness must be our guiding values,” he said. “Education plays a pivotal role in preventing bullying, and we must build robust support systems for victims and empower bystanders to become upstanders.”

As part of the state’s commitment, the governor cited ongoing initiatives, including the payment of WAEC fees for secondary school students, the renovation and construction of public school classrooms, and the recruitment of over 2,000 teachers across primary and secondary schools.

Aiyedatiwa also praised the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, alongside other key stakeholders, for their dedication to protecting children. “Your interventions are saving lives and securing futures,” he remarked.

Concluding his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged renewed collective resolve. “Let this celebration be more than a ceremony—it must be a renewal of our promise to protect every child, stand with them, and give them wings to fly.”

“Happy Children’s Day,” he added. “God bless our children. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
