The Ondo State Police Command has debunked recent allegations made by Mr. Eniola Ojajuni, a youth leader of the Afenifere group, who claimed via social media that four traditional rulers in the Akoko area are colluding with kidnappers.

Ojajuni, who had previously claimed to have been abducted and later released, also accused the police of failing to invite him for a debrief following his alleged release. However, in a press statement issued on Wednesday and signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, the police rejected the narrative put forth by the activist.

According to the statement, “Contrary to Mr. Ojajuni’s assertions, he was neither kidnapped nor released by any known abductor within Ondo State.” The police further revealed that investigations into his alleged abduction were complicated by inconsistent accounts, including discrepancies between Ojajuni’s version and statements made by his wife and brothers.

The Command emphasized that it collaborated with other police divisions to ensure Ojajuni’s safety, despite the questionable nature of his claims. Following his return, multiple invitations for a debrief were reportedly ignored by Ojajuni, an action the police say has hindered ongoing investigations.

The statement also questioned the authenticity of a video purportedly released by his alleged captors, noting that such actions are uncharacteristic of known kidnapping groups operating within the state. “Most of these criminal elements do not possess smartphones, let alone circulate footage of victims,” the police said, describing the incident as “marked by conflicting narratives.”

The Ondo State Police Command called on members of the public with credible information regarding any criminal activity to assist the police in upholding law and order. It warned against trial by social media, insisting that justice must follow due process.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to justice without fear or favor. Social status will not shield anyone from the full weight of the law,” the statement concluded.

Residents were urged to continue their support for the police and go about their lawful activities without fear, as the Command remains steadfast in its mission to ensure safety across the state.
