46 Suspected Cultists Arrested as Ondo Police Move to Quell Deadly Cult Clash in Ondo Town

By Exponent News, Akure

31st May, 2025

In the wake of a deadly cult clash in Ondo Town that claimed several lives and left many injured, the Ondo State Police Command has launched a sweeping crackdown on cult-related violence, arresting 46 suspects during a coordinated intelligence-led raid.

The operation, which began in the early hours of May 27 and lasted into the night of May 28, was personally supervised by the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayansola Olayinka Olushola, the suspects are believed to have strong ties to various cult groups responsible for the recent unrest.

Tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad (TIRS), were deployed to support divisional police units across Ondo City and surrounding areas. The operation also resulted in the recovery of cult insignias, weapons, and ammunition allegedly used in the attacks.

“The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to restoring lasting peace and eliminating cult-related activities in the state through a robust and proactive intelligence network,” the statement read. “Those arrested will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

The Police further urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring the public that all security agencies are working in synergy to sustain peace and secure the lives and properties of citizens across Ondo State.
