Outrage in Ondo as Monarch Assaulted by Community Leader Tied to Top Government Official

By Exponent News Akure,4th June, 2025.

Fresh revelations have intensified the uproar surrounding the shocking assault on Oba Odidiomo Afolabi Oladimeji, the Olu of Igbokoda, during Monday’s official flag-off of the 27.5km Igbokoda-Okitipupa dualisation project in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The revered monarch, who was the host of the high-profile event, was reportedly attacked by a prominent community leader in a disgraceful incident that has triggered protests across the region. Eyewitnesses and palace sources say the altercation began when the monarch politely asked the community leader to vacate a seat reserved for traditional rulers in the front row.

“He not only refused but insulted me publicly, threatening violence,” the monarch recounted. “Things quickly escalated, and during the struggle, he bit my ear, causing an injury that required immediate medical treatment.”

According to a palace aide speaking under anonymity, the community leader allegedly used his close ties with a top state government official to carry out the attack, describing it as a calculated attempt to shame and belittle the monarch before dignitaries.

“This was not a random act—it was premeditated. He took advantage of his political connections to violate a sacred institution,” the aide said.

The disturbing event has ignited widespread condemnation. Traditionalists, women, and youths have staged protests, demanding the attacker be brought to justice. Some women protesters reportedly walked half-naked through the streets—a culturally powerful expression of outrage and grief in Yorubaland.

“The king is currently recovering from both the physical injury and the emotional blow this has dealt to the traditional stool,” the aide said. “We are calling on the authorities to swiftly intervene and ensure justice is served.”

The monarch has vowed to pursue justice, pledging to work with law enforcement and community leaders to uphold the sanctity of traditional institutions.

“This will not be swept under the carpet,” he said. “We must restore dignity to the throne and send a clear message that such abominations will not be tolerated.”

Tensions remain high in Igbokoda, as the community awaits official action against the attacker amid growing calls for accountability and respect for tradition.
