2025 Salah: Leaders Advocate for Religious Harmony

By Exponent News, Akure — June 6, 2025

In a peaceful celebration, Muslims in Akure marked this year’s Eid-el-Kabir (Id-Mubarak) in a joyful and harmonious atmosphere. The event, held at the Yidi prayer ground along Oda Road, was graced by prominent members of the community, including the Imam of the Akure Kingdom, Alhaji Abdullah Hakeem Yayi Akorede.

Addressing the congregation, Alhaji Akorede urged the people to continue worshipping God faithfully and to remain civil in all their dealings. He encouraged citizens to support the government and fulfill their civic responsibilities. He also emphasized the importance of accessibility, calling on the government to remain approachable and responsive to the needs of the people.

Also speaking at the event, Otunba Akin Akinbobola, a well-known public figure, advocated for religious tolerance. He stressed that religion should not be a source of division, as both Muslims and Christians worship the same God, albeit through different practices. He urged people not to let these differences cause discord in society.

Otunba Akinbobola further called on the elite to remember the less privileged, who depend on them for survival. He noted that the Atunluse World-Wide organization acknowledges the supremacy of God as the Creator of all and encouraged generosity and gratitude. “Whatever we have today is a gift from God,” he said, “and we must be willing to share with others.”

In a related development, His Royal Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi Ogunlade II, the Deji of Akure Kingdom—who has ruled for over a decade—also called for increased religious tolerance among Muslims and Christians. He expressed his happiness at celebrating another peaceful Salah with his people and prayed that peace would continue to reign in the land.

Security personnel were seen strategically stationed around the prayer ground, monitoring the gathering attentively. Some were also deployed to manage traffic and ensure that the celebration proceeded smoothly and without incident.
