EXCLUSIVE: Human Sacrifice for Wealth, A Detestable Act Against Humanity

By Exponent News, Akure – 8th June, 2025

Sacrifice is a significant aspect of global cultural hegemony, particularly in Yorùbá primordial cosmology here in Africa, where traditionalists—especially Ifa Oracle practitioners—view the practice as a useful means of appealing to the gods to ensure swift responses to their requests and the fulfillment of their expectations. However, when it comes to the act of using human parts to acquire wealth, both traditionalists and the general public must raise their voices against such a detestable act, which stands in direct opposition to humanity. Against this background, Exponent News sought the opinion of a traditional expert, Oloye. Oluwagbamigbe Awoyemi Fagoroye—the Oluawo of Oba-Ile in Ondo State, Nigeria—who enlightened us on the subject matter. The excerpt in full:

Qs: What is your name, sir?

Ans: My name is Oluwagbamigbe Awoyemi Fagoroye.

Qs: Do you believe that using human parts in rituals can actually bring wealth or power, and if so, how does it supposedly work?

Ans: The use of human parts in money rituals is something very strange to me, although I’ve heard that some people are engaging in it. Personally, I detest and forbid such acts. I don’t know about others, but I strongly dislike it. I believe it stems from the impatience of those who want to get rich quickly rather than waiting for the destiny assigned to them by God.

Qs: Have you ever been approached by someone seeking money rituals involving human body parts, and how did you respond?

Ans: Yes, honestly speaking, many people have approached me about using human parts for money rituals. My response to them has always been that I do not perform such acts. Instead, I ask them about their vocation or occupation—are they furniture makers, carpenters, petty traders, etc.? If they fall into any of these categories, then I can prepare some traditional materials to support and enhance the growth of their businesses, something that can help them sell faster and become prosperous.

Qs: From your perspective, what are the spiritual consequences for those who use human parts in rituals for wealth?

Ans: Yes, there are many spiritual consequences for people who engage in this vile practice. But our people often overlook these consequences. Some believe they can enjoy the benefits of the ritual—money, power—even if it’s just for a short time, without minding the consequences. They don’t care if they die or fall ill afterward. But the consequences are severe. Some may die mysteriously; others may fall ill with strange diseases that no treatment can cure, spending a lot of money seeking help to no avail. Their families may not even know that the root cause is the person’s involvement in using human parts for money rituals. Some may enjoy the wealth for only six months before they die.

Qs: Why do you think some people are willing to go to such extremes—sacrificing human lives—for money rituals?

Ans: The desire to get rich quickly, laziness, covetousness, and theft are some of the reasons why people turn to money rituals. These individuals often refuse to work hard and instead envy those who have labored day and night to acquire wealth, buy cars, and build houses. They assume that the successful ones engaged in rituals, which is usually not true. Because of envy, lazy people start seeking ritual means to become rich like those who earned their wealth legitimately. This kind of jealousy can even make them hate others in society and resort to killing them in order to use their body parts for money. Meanwhile, hardworking people—like biscuit sellers, carpenters, and other legitimate business owners—know that their money comes from their efforts. But a person who spends all day sleeping and refuses to work will eventually look for shortcuts like money rituals involving human sacrifice.

Qs: What traditional or spiritual alternatives do you offer to people who come to you seeking wealth without resorting to violence or taboo practices?

Ans: There are many ways to make money without using human parts. For instance, animals from the bush can be used in traditional rituals, combined with other harmless preparations. These alternatives have no negative spiritual consequences and can still yield effective results for the user. Unlike the money rituals involving human parts—which carry heavy consequences—these kinds of sacrifices are safe. However, one must follow certain taboos for the charm to remain effective. If these taboos are broken, the charm may become ineffective. Even before I begin any work for a client, I always consult the Ifa Oracle to determine whether the charm will be effective or have any spiritual implications. The Oracle will reveal what the client must do to ensure the success of the charm. If the person agrees to follow the instructions, I proceed, and the results often come as desired. Consulting the Ifa Oracle is very important at the beginning—it helps to confirm the spiritual direction before taking any action.
