Nine suspects have been arraigned in Akure for their alleged roles in a series of violent cult clashes that left at least two people dead in Ondo City. The Ondo State Police Command disclosed this development in a follow-up statement on the recent arrest of 46 suspected cultists.
The suspects, all male and aged between 23 and 45, were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Akure Magisterial District following a thorough screening and identification process. They face a six-count charge including conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and membership of proscribed cult groups such as Eiye, Ave, and Aiye confraternities.
Those arraigned are:
Akinrimade Ayomide (23)
Olanrewaju Adejuwon (31)
Kunle Johnson (29)
Sodiq Ibrahim (25)
Franklin Akinrinsola (29)
Adebusoye Sunkanmi (30)
Fadayomi Ayoola (45)
Akingbesote Eric (31)
Akomoleyin Akin (29)
According to the police, the charges stem from recent violent confrontations among rival cult groups that claimed the lives of Fagbemi Guna Ayomide (25) and Sunday Adeyemi (32). One of the deceased, Akinsiku Olabode (52), was identified as a notorious drug trafficker who reportedly financed cult activities and arms procurement with proceeds from the illicit drug trade.
The Command noted that further investigations are ongoing, and efforts to arrest other suspects linked to the violence have been intensified. Anti-Cultism and Tactical Intelligence Response squads have been deployed across Ondo City to restore peace and ensure the prosecution of all involved.
Commissioner of Police has praised residents for their cooperation and urged continued vigilance.
