Dennis Duebo Honoured for Human-Centered Service at Southwest Heralds Awards

By Exponent News, Akure — June 15, 2025

It was an evening of honor and inspiration on Sunday as renowned legal practitioner and administrator, Barrister Dennis Duebo . Oghenne, received a distinguished award from Southwest Heralds magazine during the 7th edition of its annual recognition ceremony in Akure.

Addressing the audience with humility and gratitude, Duebo expressed deep appreciation for being alive to witness his modest contributions to humanity being acknowledged. “Today is a day I appreciate so much for being alive to witness when my little contribution to humanity is being recognized,” he said.

He extended heartfelt thanks to the event organizers, especially the publisher of Heralds, Mr. Oluwatayo Adu, whom he described as “a brother and a friend I respect so much.” Recounting his initial hesitation upon receiving the award notification, Duebo said he considered declining it, but ultimately chose to accept, recognizing it as an affirmation of his values.

Duebo  reflected on the foundation of his philosophy, crediting his late mother for instilling in him the importance of placing human beings at the center of all endeavors. “That above all, when we leave this planet Earth, we will only be remembered for what we do—for the legacy we leave behind,” he said.

Drawing inspiration from philosopher Immanuel Kant, Duebo emphasized the moral imperative of valuing people as ends in themselves rather than as means to an end. “Anything you do that makes a human being a means to an end is immoral. A human being should be an end in itself,” he quoted, underscoring the principles that guide his life and work.

As he joined other distinguished honorees, including Sir Chief Odusanya and Chief Gbolade, Duebo remarked on the privilege of sharing the stage with mentors and respected figures in society. “I am sitting on the same seat with them to be conferred this honor,” he said. “It is a call for service, a call for more service.”

In closing, Barrister Dennis Duebo reaffirmed his commitment to a life of service, saying, “It is reminding me constantly that I should continue to give my effort and somehow, someday, it will be rewarded.”

“My name once again is Dennis Duebo Esquire. I am a lawyer. I am an administrator,” he concluded, with applause echoing in the hall.
