CP Lawal Adebowale Assumes Duty as 46th Commissioner of Police in Ondo State

By Exponent News Akure | July 2, 2025

The Ondo State Police Command has officially announced the assumption of duty by CP Lawal Adebowale, psc(+), mnips, as the 46th Commissioner of Police in the state. He succeeds CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, who has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

CP Adebowale, a highly decorated officer, brings over three decades of policing experience to his new role. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s in Business Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). His academic background is reinforced by extensive professional training both in Nigeria and abroad.

Throughout his career, CP Adebowale has served in diverse commands and strategic roles across the country. These include postings in Edo, Yobe, Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Rivers, Cross River, Katsina, and Enugu states, as well as the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He has held key positions such as Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander, Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Robbery and Anti-Kidnapping units, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in the IGP X-Squad. He was also Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Professional Studies at the Nigeria Police Academy and Zonal DCP for Criminal Investigation Departments (ZCID) in Zone 14, Katsina.

Notably, CP Adebowale served between 2006 and 2009 as a Sub-Regional Bureau Officer at INTERPOL, where he oversaw critical international crime portfolios for West and Central Africa. These included investigations into stolen vehicles, forged travel documents, fingerprint and DNA databases, and stolen works of art—contributing significantly to cross-border policing efforts.

Before his posting to Ondo, CP Adebowale was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Force Quartermaster at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the new Commissioner pledged to uphold public safety, enforce the rule of law, and deepen trust between the police and the communities they serve.

He expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Ondo State Police Command and thanked his predecessor for his contributions to peace and security in the state.

“I am committed to consolidating on the achievements of my predecessor and deploying intelligence-led and community-driven strategies to address emerging security challenges,” CP Adebowale said.

He further urged residents, traditional rulers, stakeholders, and sister security agencies to collaborate with the Command in promoting peace and safety across the state.

For security-related matters or to provide useful information, the public may reach the Commissioner directly at 0906 058 8958.
