The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on student bodies across the country to establish functional platforms for collaboration with security agencies in the fight against crimes, particularly on campuses.

Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye made the call on Wednesday, July 16, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) to the NSCDC state headquarters in Akure.

Speaking during the visit, Ibiloye emphasized that crime prevention, especially among young people, requires collective effort. He stressed that students must take ownership of their safety by working closely with security outfits to identify and report criminal activities such as cultism, drug abuse, and radicalisation.

“Security is everybody’s business. The more students are involved in intelligence sharing and preventive strategies, the better the outcome for our campuses and society at large,” he stated.

Earlier, the Grand Commander of NAOSS, Alade Temitope, said the visit aimed to foster synergy between the student body and the NSCDC in addressing the growing concerns over youth involvement in criminal activities.

Alade highlighted the association’s plan to hold sensitisation and orientation campaigns and requested the active participation of the Commandant or his representatives in the programs to educate students on the dangers of social vices.

Commending the association for its proactive initiative, Commandant Ibiloye lamented the decline in parental engagement in children’s upbringing, which he said contributes to moral decay and increased criminal tendencies among the youth.

He reassured the students of the NSCDC’s readiness to support their initiatives and pledged that the Corps would always be available to provide professional guidance and partnership.
