Former governor of Kano state Rabiu Kwankwanso  has called for stricter scrutiny and more prudent use of increased revenue allocations to sub-national governments, urging governors to prioritize the welfare of their people over lavish infrastructural spending.

Speaking at the ongoing National constitution reviewing meeting held  this week Kwankwanso emphasized that the mismanagement of resources at federal, state, and local government levels remains a major impediment to national development—especially in agriculture, education, and healthcare.

“There’s too much focus on infrastructure without corresponding investment in human capital development,”the analysts noted, adding that improved economic outcomes can only be achieved if states commit to policies that directly benefit the populace.

The analysts remarks come amid reports that revenue allocation to states has increased by over 50 percent in recent months. He challenged state governors to ensure the gains are felt at the grassroots.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) also held a leadership transition during the NEC gathering.

ProfessorYilwatda Nentawe was announced as the party’s new national chairman. He pledged to reposition the ruling party ahead of its national convention and the 2027 general elections.

In a related development, the analysts also discussed judicial reform, with lawmakers calling for greater clarity in court judgments. This follows public outcry over conflicting interpretations of legal rulings, such as the ongoing case involving suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Analysts say the NEC meeting signals a renewed push for institutional accountability and party restructuring, even as global diplomatic tensions and tariff battles continue to unfold on the international stage.
