Tinubu Makes Key Appointments to Varsity Councils, Names Vice Chancellor for Tsafe Health University

Admin 12th August, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh appointments to the governing councils of two federal universities and named principal officers for the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State, in a move to strengthen leadership in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Hon. Chisom D. Obih joins the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, replacing a late council member. Also appointed is veteran communications scholar Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, who takes a seat on the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano, has been named Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe. He is joined by Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.

Prof. Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel, is a seasoned medical academic with qualifications spanning Nigeria, the UK, and the USA, including fellowships from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the American College of Surgeons.
