The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Zaccheous Tosin, over an armed robbery incident in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the suspect, a resident of Idimago Street, Ikare-Akoko, was apprehended on August 25, 2025, after allegedly attacking one Ogunbodude Serah at her residence behind Winners’ Chapel, Ikare-Akoko.
The statement disclosed that Tosin pretended to be plucking bitter leaves at the victim’s backyard but suddenly attacked her, forcefully dispossessing her of her bag and attempting to flee. The victim’s alarm attracted a nearby police detective, who, alongside operatives from Ikare Divisional Headquarters, swiftly pursued and arrested the fleeing suspect.
A locally made barrel gun was recovered from him, confirming he was armed at the time of the incident. The case has since been transferred to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) office in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the quick intervention of the detectives, assuring residents of the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the safety of lives and property across Ondo State.
He noted that the successes recorded so far by the command were in line with the policing vision of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, which prioritises community partnership, intelligence-led policing, rapid response, and inter-agency collaboration.
While appreciating the cooperation of residents who provide useful information to aid operations, the Commissioner urged the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies in the ongoing efforts to rid the state of crime.
