Fatal Dispute Over N14,000: Man Stabbed to Death in Ondo Town

Admin 18th September, 2025

Ondo Town, Nigeria – A tragic altercation over a monetary debt turned deadly on September 13, 2025, when a 25-year-old man, Fisayo Ajetumobi, was fatally stabbed at a construction site along Litaye Camp via Laje Road, Ondo.

According to a statement released by the Ondo State Police Command, the incident occurred around 6:30 PM when one Wale Ibrahim, a resident of Oreborede Street, confronted another man, Gabriel Oyeniran, over a debt of ₦14,000 allegedly owed for wood previously sold.

An eyewitness, Akinsola Lukman, reported the matter to the police, stating that the argument between the two escalated quickly. In the heat of the confrontation, Ibrahim allegedly stabbed Ajetumobi in the chest with a knife. The victim died on the spot from the fatal wound.

The suspect, Ibrahim, was immediately apprehended by officers of the Ondo State Police Command. Following a thorough investigation, he has been charged to court to face prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, PSC+, MNIPS, condemned the act as senseless and avoidable. He reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality and emphasized the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.

“This is yet another reminder that violence is never the solution. We will continue to ensure that justice is served and that the safety of lives and property remains our utmost priority,” CP Lawal stated.

He also called on members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and actionable information to help prevent crime.

The arrest and swift action align with the crime-fighting vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.
