Landmark Commissioning of the Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre in Abuja

Admin, 19th September, 2025.

This morning, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in company of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, carried out an inspection of the newly-built Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre at the NIS Headquarters, Abuja.

Also present were journalists from various media houses, who joined the team in touring the state-of-the-art facility. Technical partners of the project provided detailed explanations of the operations and functionality of each unit within the centre.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister reiterated that the #RenewedHope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) is being translated into tangible results through transparency, accountability, and infrastructure-driven reforms. He announced that the new facility, powered by high-speed machines, has positioned Nigeria to achieve a massive leap in passport production efficiency.

The figures speak volumes:

Prior to this development, the NIS could only personalise an average of 250–300 passports daily.

With the new centralised system, the service can now produce over 1,000 passports per hour.

This means in less than five working hours, about 4,500 to 5,000 passports can be personalised and delivered.

This milestone marks the first time in 62 years of the NIS that passport personalisation has been centralised, ending the long-standing practice of multiple production points across the globe.

The Minister further stressed that this strategic infrastructural investment, which came at no direct cost to the government, will significantly reduce waiting periods for applicants, thereby eliminating unnecessary delays that had plagued the passport acquisition process in the past.

TEAM DERO commends this bold step as a historic achievement in Nigeria’s quest for efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
