DIGITAL MEDIA CHAPEL PLEDGES SUPPORT TO ONDO STATE INFORMATION COMMISSIONER

By Exponent News Akure, Sept. 24 , 2025

In a significant show of solidarity and professional camaraderie, the Digital Media Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, pledging full support for his tenure and the state’s information machinery.

The delegation, led by Chapter Chairman Adesoye Ajayi , a Station Manager of JABU Radio 105.7 FM, Mr. Adesoye Ajayi, , expressed the support and the loyalty of the chapel to the commissioner.. The financial Secretary, Mr Richard Ilesanmi introduced other key executives including the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Yinka Ogunleye; General Secretary, Mr. Olusegun HOSEA; Financial Secretary, Mr. Richard; and a senior member of the chapter, Mr. Kunle Ajibogun Kunle to the commissioner.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Ajayi expressed the Chapter’s delight at the appointment of a seasoned journalist to head the Ministry, noting that past Commissioners were often drawn from unrelated fields. He described Hon. Idowu as “a journalist per excellence,” and lauded his longstanding commitment to journalism, information dissemination, and media development.

He stated, “This time around, we are happy that we have someone from our own constituency. That’s why we’ve come today to not only congratulate you but also assure you of our full collaboration in publicizing government activities and shaping public orientation.”

Highlighting the scope and diversity of the Chapter, Mr. Ajayi noted that the Digital Media Chapel is a newly established branch within NUJ, created for practicing journalists across different sectors who are not affiliated with either the state or federal chapels. The Chapter comprises of  professionals including professors, PhD holders, and seasoned media practitioners from institutions like Achievers University,  Adekunle Ajasin University, and  other NIPR member who is our member.

In his response, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku expressed deep appreciation for the visit and pledged continued support for the media. Reflecting on his career, he noted his passion for journalism, spanning over 17 years with top publications like Vanguard and The Guardian. He emphasized the importance of digital media in modern information management, stating,

“The future of journalism lies in digital platforms. By 4 a.m., I’ve read the day’s major headlines online. That’s where the world is going.”

The Commissioner shared his vision for the Ministry, which includes not only information dissemination but a strong focus on re-orienting societal values. He hinted at strategic media partnerships for upcoming government programmes, especially in light of the state’s 50th anniversary in February 2026.

“This Ministry is not about propaganda. It is about information, education, and value reorientation,” he said. “We’ll be engaging media practitioners like yourselves to take this message to schools, markets, and every corner of Ondo State.”

He concluded by assuring the chapel that the Ministry’s doors are open for ideas and collaboration, especially as the government sets its sights on legacy-building initiatives.

As the meeting ended, representatives of the Chapel reiterated their commitment to ethical journalism, digital transformation, and mutual growth between the media and the government in Ondo State.
