STOLEN TRICYCLE TRACKED TO ONDO: SUSPECT CONFESSES TO IBADAN THEFT

Admin  245h September, 2025

In a swift and commendable operation, police in Ondo State have recovered a stolen tricycle and arrested a 28-year-old suspect who confessed to stealing the vehicle earlier this year in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The suspect, identified as Michael Kehinde, was intercepted on September 21, 2025, by operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol while riding an unregistered tricycle without valid documentation. Upon questioning, Kehinde failed to provide a convincing explanation regarding the ownership of the vehicle. Further interrogation led to a full confession, with the suspect admitting to stealing the tricycle from the Ojoo area of Ibadan.

Realizing the gravity of his situation, Kehinde reportedly attempted to escape custody but was swiftly restrained by alert officers, ensuring the situation remained under control.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, praised the professionalism and prompt response of the officers involved, stating that the incident underscores the Command’s commitment to combating crime with diligence and integrity.

The case has been transferred to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit for detailed investigation and prosecution. Efforts are also underway, in collaboration with the Oyo State Police Command, to locate the rightful owner of the recovered tricycle.

CP Lawal, while acknowledging the operational guidance and support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reassured residents of the Command’s unrelenting efforts to keep Ondo State safe. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies.

“Ondo State cannot and will not serve as a haven for criminals,” CP Lawal firmly declared.
