TINUBU SAYS ECONOMY IS RECOVERING, CELEBRATES OLUBADAN’S CORONATION IN IBADAN

By Exponent News Akure 27th September,2025.

President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy is on a recovery path, attributing the positive turn to the success of key reforms initiated by his administration over the past two years. He gave this assurance while speaking at the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Addressing a high-profile gathering at the ceremony, the President acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians and expressed optimism that the benefits of the reforms would soon be felt widely across the country.

“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said. “This has only been possible because of the support, endurance, and resilience of the Nigerian people.”

The President praised the new Olubadan, describing him as a long-time friend, political ally, and a symbol of resilience in Nigeria’s democratic journey. He recalled Oba Ladoja’s turbulent political past, particularly his illegal impeachment as governor, and commended him for weathering those storms with dignity.

“Today is a very happy day for me and for Ibadan. I celebrate Kabiyesi, who is not just a traditional ruler, but a man of courage, perseverance, and honour. May your reign bring prosperity and peace to Ibadanland,” Tinubu stated.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who formally presented the staff of office to the new Olubadan, said the coronation marked the end of lingering disputes over the traditional leadership succession process in Ibadan.

“With today’s coronation, all issues concerning the Ibadan traditional institution are resolved and behind us. The process is now sacrosanct,” the governor declared, while also thanking President Tinubu for honouring the occasion.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja described his ascension as a journey of destiny, highlighting the significance of his long path to the throne since becoming Mogaji of the Arusa family in 1992.

“It is not by power, influence, connection, or money that I stand here today. I accept not just the title, but the responsibilities it carries,” the new Olubadan said. He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his presence and support.

The coronation ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and former governors Donald Duke, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Gbenga Daniel.

Other notable attendees included Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
