Ilaje LG Chairman Commends Corps Members, Residents During Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

Ilaje, Ondo State — September 27, 2025

The Executive Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area, Hon. Amona Maurice Oripenaye (ARAH), has applauded the participation of corps members and residents in the September edition of the monthly National Environmental Sanitation Exercise. He also used the opportunity to sensitize the public on the importance of maintaining a clean environment and complying with sanitation laws.

In line with the OUR EASE agenda of the Ondo State Government, Hon. Oripenaye personally monitored the exercise across key locations within the local government area to assess compliance and encourage greater community involvement.

The Chairman’s first stop was the NYSC Corps Members’ Lodge, where he commended the corps members for their efforts in cleaning their surroundings as part of their Community Development Service (CDS). He emphasized the need for active participation in sanitation activities and community development initiatives. However, he also condemned the initial defiance of one corps member, who later showed remorse and offered an apology.

Hon. Oripenaye, accompanied by top council officials and stakeholders, continued the inspection through the motor park, major markets, and other areas within the LGA. While expressing satisfaction with those who participated actively, he openly challenged residents and traders found violating sanitation regulations.

“You all need to clean your surroundings to avoid health hazards and disease outbreaks. Ignoring these laws can lead to serious legal consequences, including imprisonment,” the Chairman warned.

He expressed concern over the unsanitary condition of parts of the market and noted that many residents neglected their civic responsibility by not taking part in the exercise. Nevertheless, he praised those who actively participated, highlighting their contribution to a healthier Ilaje.

The Chairman also used the occasion to sensitize residents on the consequences of non-compliance and the benefits of regular sanitation, stressing that environmental hygiene is critical to public health and safety.

Hon. Oripenaye stated that, based on observations from the exercise, the local government would soon convene an Environmental Sanitation Stakeholders’ Meeting to deliberate on key legislative and operational issues regarding sanitation. The date for the meeting, he said, will be communicated in due course.

He appreciated the efforts of the LG Management Staff, Ward Councillors, the Environmental Health Services Department (EHSD), voluntary security agencies, and other stakeholders who participated in the monitoring exercise.

Among those present during the exercise were the Vice Chairman, Hon. (Mrs) Oluwaranti Esejuwon; Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Odolo Segun; Leader of the Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Ikuemehin Omosule Francis (Tego); Director of EHSD, Chief Oripenaye Shina Olusola; Hon. Omowumi Alaba; Hon. Ehuwa Banji; Hon. Ogunniyi Emmanuel; Hon. Korolo Fayowole; Hon. Kalejaye Bababo; Mr. Metibemu Ediolu (NOA Officer); officials from Ilaje LG Information Unit; the Chairman’s aides; and security person
