Aiyedatiwa Hails Tinubu’s Vision as Ondo Backs South-West Development Commission

11th October, 2025

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has pledged full support for the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), saying the new federal initiative will fast-track economic growth, bridge regional inequalities, and empower youths across the region.

Speaking at a thanksgiving reception in honour of Dr. Jide Martins Adewinle, the newly appointed Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State on the Commission, the Governor commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the SWDC. He described the move as a bold and strategic intervention to unlock the South-West’s economic potential and address decades-long developmental disparities.

“The creation of the South-West Development Commission is a laudable step by the Federal Government to tackle developmental disparities, harness regional potential and promote sustainable growth,” Aiyedatiwa said during the event held at Adekunbi Hall, Iye Ile Resort Centre, Ode-Aye.

With Adewinle’s appointment, the Governor said Ondo State would contribute “competent, visionary leadership” to the new Commission, urging the appointee to justify the confidence reposed in him.

“Leadership is stewardship imbued with humility, inclusiveness and vision. Let your service reflect the diligence, integrity and accountability that have defined your journey thus far,” Aiyedatiwa told Adewinle, whom he praised for years of consistent service and community development.

He also reassured residents that the Ondo State Government would partner closely with the SWDC and other federal bodies to drive progress in areas such as infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture, and youth development.

Adewinle, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa, promising to uphold the legacy of visionary leadership in the region. He likened the Commission’s objectives to the foundational development blueprint of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“This Commission is a continuation of Awolowo’s dream — a prosperous South-West built on unity, innovation, and development,” Adewinle said. He added that the SWDC would champion education, welfare, infrastructure, and regional economic empowerment.

Other speakers at the event included the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Andrew Ogunsakin, who lauded the governor for approving a 5km road project and thanked him for ongoing developmental works across the state.

Dignitaries present included the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan (representing the Speaker), Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Olusegun Omojuwa, former Deputy Governor Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, several commissioners, traditional rulers, political leaders, and captains of industry.
