Following recent violent attacks that left several homes destroyed and many residents injured across Obe-Nla, Obe-Adun, and Obe-Jedo communities in Ilaje Local Government Area, the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, has visited the affected areas, promising swift government intervention and reconstruction.

Poroye, who led a delegation of the Commission’s Board and Management on an assessment tour, met with the Olubo of Obe-Nla Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Andrew Kolawole Ikuesan, to convey Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s sympathy and support for the victims.

“We give glory to God that there was no death,” Poroye said during the visit. “I appeal to Kabiyesi to continue to encourage our people to maintain peace, because peace is the main language that brings development.”

He assured the communities that all damaged properties would be compensated and relief materials distributed to affected households. Poroye reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of its citizens, describing Governor Aiyedatiwa as “fully involved” in efforts to resolve the crisis.

“The Governor is our son, and we must rally around him. His leadership in moments like this shows his deep concern for our people,” he added.

Poroye commended Oba Ikuesan for his proactive handling of the situation and urged continued community engagement to prevent further unrest. He also revealed plans by OSOPADEC to launch more public enlightenment programmes to promote peace and unity.

During the visit, the Chairman announced that the second and third phases of the Obe-Nla concrete walkway project would begin immediately, in line with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s directive.

“In no distant time, Obe-Nla and other coastal communities will wear a completely new look,” Poroye assured, hinting at other major projects set to transform the area.

He praised residents for their resilience and cooperation, noting that their unity continues to motivate the Commission to deliver impactful projects that improve living standards.

In his remarks, the Olubo of Obe-Nla, HRM Oba Andrew Kolawole Ikuesan, described the visit as timely and reassuring. He thanked the state government for its concern and appealed for prompt action to help victims rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

Recalled that Navy  officers were Accused of Assault, Arson, and Theft in Ondo Governor’s Hometown

Ilaje communities petition police, demand justice over alleged attacks by naval officers

Tension is brewing in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State as residents of Obe Nla, Obajedo, and Obe Adun have accused personnel of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) of launching violent attacks that left homes razed and residents brutalized.

Obe Nla, notably the hometown of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was among the affected areas.

In a petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 17, Akure, and obtained by The Nation on Saturday, the communities, through their solicitor Barrister Obayem Williams of J.W. Obayemi & Co., alleged that naval operatives invaded the towns on Sunday, October 19, destroying properties and assaulting residents.

According to the petition, the officers “stormed the affected communities in a manner reminiscent of a war operation,” vandalizing homes, molesting women, and burning properties.

A particularly disturbing case was reported at Obe Adun, where the naval personnel allegedly raided a local bakery, assaulted workers, and carted away ₦14 million said to be proceeds from two weeks of bread sales.

The petition claimed that several families have been rendered homeless, while others fled after the officers allegedly threatened to return. It called for urgent intervention to restore peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

In a related development, the Ilaje Omuro Worldwide Connect group has threatened to stage a peaceful protest in Igbokoda to condemn what it described as “incessant killings and brutality of community residents by naval personnel.”

The group, in a letter signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Babatunde Omobone, also requested police protection for the planned demonstration. However, it said the protest could be suspended if immediate conciliatory steps are taken by the Ilaje Local Government Chairman to address the grievances.
