
Police Foil Armed Robbery Attempt, Arrest Suspect And Recover Stolen Motorcycle In Akure

In another demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to public safety, operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have foiled an armed robbery attempt and arrested one of the suspects involved in the attack on a commercial motorcyclist at Achievers Area, Sijuade, Akure. This swift intervention, made possible through the proactive efforts of officers from the Oda Division and the timely support of community members, once again underscores the Command’s success in combating violent crimes through community collaboration.
The incident occurred on 2nd November 2025 at about 8:00 p.m., when Mr. Omoniyi Elijah, a commercial motorcyclist, was attacked by two passengers who attempted to snatch his motorcycle. During the struggle, one of the suspects, later identified as Ahmed Tijani, stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife. Despite sustaining serious injuries, the victim’s courage and quick thinking in raising an alarm triggered the prompt response of the police.
Acting swiftly on the distress call, officers of Oda Division, with the assistance of vigilant residents, moved in and apprehended Ahmed Tijani at the scene, while his accomplice escaped. The immediate police response prevented what could have been a tragic outcome. The victim was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention and has since been discharged on 4th November 2025, while the stolen motorcycle was recovered on 5th November 2025—a testament to diligent follow-up and effective coordination between investigators and the community.
Commending the officers for their gallantry, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, praised the bravery and cooperation of both the Oda Division officers and residents of the area. He emphasized that such partnership between the Police and the public remains a vital pillar in the collective effort to rid the state of crime. The CP further assured that the Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure he faces justice.
