Police Nab Suspect, Recover Stolen Toyota Corolla Traced from Akure to Abuja

7th November, 2025

In a cross-state operation that highlights the growing efficiency of police intelligence networks, operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have recovered a Toyota Corolla stolen in Akure after tracking it to Abuja, leading to the arrest of a suspect, Ojodi Esiah.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the suspect allegedly drugged the car owner, Tunde Olubode, after lacing his drink with a sedative before fleeing with the vehicle from the Agbogbo area of Akure.

The victim’s swift report prompted an immediate, technology-driven investigation. In collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, officers traced the vehicle to the Gbangbalada area of Abuja, where the suspect was apprehended and the car recovered.

The suspect and the recovered vehicle were returned to Akure on November 4, 2025, as investigations continue to determine the suspect’s possible involvement in similar crimes and identify accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, praised the officers involved for their professionalism and efficiency. He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his reforms that have enhanced operational coordination across commands.

CP Lawal reiterated the Command’s resolve to pursue criminals beyond state borders, assuring the public that no offender who commits a crime in Ondo State will evade justice. He further urged residents to continue sharing credible information to aid the police in curbing crime.
