The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security in the state’s coastal communities through enhanced collaboration with the Nigerian Navy.

Chairman of the Commission, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Commanding Officer of the Nigeria Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Igbokoda, Captain Aliyu Usman, on Friday.

The meeting, held at the naval base in Ilaje Local Government Area, focused on improving intelligence sharing, boosting rapid-response operations, and fostering closer cooperation between security personnel and residents in the state’s oil-producing communities.

Poroye said the initiative aligns with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s peace and development agenda for the riverine areas, noting that sustainable growth in the Niger Delta hinges on stability and mutual trust.

He explained that the engagement with the Navy followed the Commission’s recent visits to communities such as Obe-Nla, Obe Jedo, and Obe-Adun, aimed at assessing security concerns and promoting dialogue after incidents of unrest and vandalism in parts of Ilaje.

“The Commission will continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure peace and protect livelihoods in our mandate areas,” Poroye stated, urging community leaders and residents to embrace dialogue and avoid actions that could threaten the prevailing calm.

The OSOPADEC Chairman was accompanied on the visit by the Director of Administration and Supplies, Apostle ’Sola Orisamoluwa, and the Deputy Director of Project Planning and Development (Design & Development), Architect Sunday Olasele.
