Ondo Assembly Members Pass Vote of No Confidence, Move to Remove Speaker Olamide Oladiji

13th November, 2025

Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have issued a resolution announcing a vote of no confidence in the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, citing allegations of gross misconduct and financial irregularities.

The resolution, dated 13 November 2025, was signed by 12 lawmakers who invoked the powers granted under Section 92(4)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to initiate his removal.

According to the signatories, the Speaker is accused of:

Diverting ₦50 million appropriated for a public hearing;

Misappropriating the House’s monthly operational grants.

The lawmakers said the alleged actions violate several constitutional and statutory provisions, including:

Paragraph 9, Part I, Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution — prohibition of abuse of office;

The Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance;

Section 19 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 — abuse of office for corrupt advantage;

Section 390 of the Criminal Code Act — stealing by a public official.

They further argued that the alleged infractions amount to gross misconduct as defined under Section 188(11) of the Constitution and have “gravely impaired the institutional integrity and lawful operations” of the Assembly.

Lawmakers Seek EFCC Intervention

In the resolution, the members called for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately invite Speaker Oladiji for investigation, and to prosecute him where necessary, including recovery of any public funds found to have been misappropriated.

Signatories

The resolution was endorsed by the following 12 lawmakers:

1. Hon. Jide Oguntodu – Akure South I

2. Hon. Temitope Akomolafe – Ifedore

3. Hon. Fatai Atere – Akoko North-West I

4. Hon. Toyin Japhet – Akoko North-East

5. Hon. Raymond Daodu – Akoko South-West I

6. Hon. Samuel Ifabiyi – Odigbo I

7. Hon. Babatunde Fasonu – Odigbo II

8. Hon. (Princess) Oluwatosin Ogunlowo – Idanre

9. Hon. Afe Felix – Akoko North-West II

10. Hon. Nelson Akinsuroju – Ile Oluji/Oke-Igbo
