President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended his planned trips to South Africa and Angola following renewed security concerns in Kebbi and Kwara states.

The President was expected to depart Abuja today for Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Summit and later proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, the abduction of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and Tuesday’s attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, prompted an immediate change of plans.

In response to a request from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed security agencies to pursue and apprehend the bandits responsible for the attack.

The President is awaiting detailed briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who visited Kebbi on his behalf—as well as from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services regarding the incidents.

Tinubu reiterated his instructions to security agencies to do everything necessary to rescue the abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.
