‎…Pathologist tells Ondo Coroner Court that autopsy shows no marks of violence; death linked to cardiac failure
‎
‎There is no evidence of corrosive substance or physical violence in the death of the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Mr. Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran. This was the central submission of Consultant Anatomic Pathologist, Dr. Olumuyiwa Pelemo, who appeared on Friday before the coroner Court, Akure, presided over by Dr. Dickson Ogunfuyi.

‎The court is conducting a coroner’s inquest into the sudden death of Mr. Adeniran, who was found unxonscious in his residence in Akure on July 16, 2025—just seven months after assuming office as UNIMED’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025.
‎
‎Pathologist: “No Marks of Violence, No Corrosive Substance Detected”
‎
‎While being extensively engaged by the coroner, DR Pelemo stated that the body showed no external injuries, confirming that:
‎
‎“On examination, there were no obvious marks of violence on the body.
‎The only thing observed were post-mortem changes on the skin.”
‎
‎
‎Addressing concerns raised about possible poisoning or chemical ingestion, he clarified that toxicology results showed no corrosive or harmful substances, despite the body having been embalmed before the autopsy.
‎
‎He explained that although embalming introduces formalin into the body tissues, it does not significantly interfere with toxicology testing, noting that experts can still detect relevant substances.
‎
‎‎Autopsy Findings: Congestive Cardiac Failure
‎
‎DR. Pelemo, who has practiced as a pathologist for about 20 years and as a Consultant Anatomic Pathologist for 13 years, told the court that the autopsy concluded that the cause of death was complications arising from congestive cardiac failure.
‎
‎He confirmed that the deceased’s brother, Mr Adeniran Adebayo, officially identified the body before the procedure was carried out on September 24, 2025 at 12:15 p.m.
‎
‎The court admitted his autopsy report—dated November 19, 2025—as Exhibit G.
‎
‎‎Proceedings and Representation
‎
‎The coroner’s sitting had representatives from key stakeholders, including:
‎‎Mrs. Dolapo Adeniran – representing the family
‎‎Inspector Olayinka Funmilayo – representing the Police
‎‎J.K. Oluwaseye (Deputy Director) – representing UNIMED
‎‎Chief D. S Akinbo – representing the legal body of Professor Loto
‎
‎‎Dr. Dickson Ogunfuyi emphasized that the court sought clarity on the medical explanations to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the registrar’s death.
‎
‎‎Background
‎‎Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran’s sudden passing sent shockwaves through the university community, where he served.
‎‎Adjournment
‎‎After reviewing the expert testimony and adopted exhibits, Dr. Ogunfuyi adjourned the case to December 12 for final report of coroner’s inquest.
