‎Armed Forces Remembrance: We are committed to supporting you.- Aiyedatiwa
‎
‎15th January, 2026.
‎
‎
‎The Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has commiserated with the families and friends of the Nigerian fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the protection of the territorial integrity of the country. The event was held at the cenotaph ground in Adegbemile, where the Governor inspected the military guards, which comprised various military personnel. The Governor laid a wreath in front of the statue of the fallen heroes, and thereafter other military officers, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, political leaders, and a host of others took their turns to show their marks of respect and sympathy to the heroes who lost their lives for the sake of defending the unity of the country.

‎The event, which was well attended by the leadership of political parties and traditional rulers, came to show their respect to some of the gallant forces that have done their best for the development of the country. There was the firing of a three-gun salute to give honour to the fallen heroes. Balloons were released into the air to signify peace for the ceremony across the land and to ensure that there would be no war in the land.
‎The Governor thanked God for sparing our lives to witness the Armed Forces Remembrance for the year 2026. He said today’s celebration was highly symbolic, as it signified the sacrifices made for the country by the fallen heroes. He said the celebration would not be complete without taking care of the welfare of the widows of the fallen heroes.
‎The Governor launched the emblem with ₦5 million as his contribution to the support of the programme. He said the sum of ₦50 million had been approved as loans to be given to the widows of the fallen heroes and other widows. He asked them to pay back the interest-free loans given to them so that others could also benefit.

‎He commended all the military and paramilitary officers for their contributions to the safety of the state from criminals, as their efforts have made the public and the government adjudge the state as the most peaceful in the country. A symbolic presentation of the cheque was given to five selected widows to confirm the authenticity of the Governor’s promise to them.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; thet Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, represented by his deputy, Rt. Ololade Gbegudu; the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip; State Chairman of APC, Engr. Ade Adetimehin; members of the State Executive Council; members of the State House of Assembly; and various traditional rulers.
