Aiyedatiwa Assures Completion of Abandoned Projects at OAUSTECH

Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing abandoned infrastructure projects at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, as part of efforts to strengthen the institution’s learning environment.
The governor gave the assurance during the university’s 9th convocation ceremony held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Aiyedatiwa, who serves as the Visitor to the institution, said his government would ensure the completion of key projects within the university, including the iconic School of Science building, School of ICT building, and student hostels initiated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Segun Omojuwa, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education and strengthening infrastructure in the state.
He also pledged support for the university’s efforts to bridge the gap between the institution and its host communities in order to harness opportunities in the blue economy for the development of Ondo State.
“I am proud to announce that we will complete the outstanding abandoned projects by OSOPADEC and NDDC, including the School of Science Building, ICT building and road projects started by previous administrations,” the governor stated.
According to him, the projects would significantly enhance the university’s academic environment and contribute to its overall growth.
The governor noted that his administration’s **EASE agenda—Education, Agriculture, Security, Entrepreneurship and Infrastructure Development—**remains central to building a more prosperous Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa also commended the Vice-Chancellor, Temi Ologunorisa, for repositioning the university and expanding its academic capacity.
He praised the VC for increasing the number of faculties from three to seven and growing the student population from about 5,000 to over 12,000 within five years.
The governor further applauded the introduction of new programmes such as BSc Cyber Security, BSc Marine Science and BSc Meteorology, as well as postgraduate degrees in Engineering and Engineering Technology.
Congratulating the graduating students, Aiyedatiwa urged them to make meaningful contributions to society using the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies.
“I charge you to be ambassadors of our university, to uphold its values and strive for excellence in all that you do,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ologunorisa acknowledged the infrastructural challenges facing the institution, noting that several projects had remained uncompleted for years.
He encouraged the graduating students to remain curious, embrace new challenges and apply the values of excellence, integrity and service instilled in them during their time at the university.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, a total of 1,452 students graduated in the 2024/2025 academic session, including 50 First Class graduates, 594 Second Class Upper Division, 691 Second Class Lower Division, and 115 Third Class graduates.
The overall best graduating student was Wale Isiah Agboola of the Electrical/Electronics Department with a 4.90 CGPA, while Dominion Oyindamola Akinwunmi from the Computer Science Department emerged the best female graduating student with a 4.89 CGPA.
Ologunorisa also announced that Oluwaseun Adesina Olukoya became the first PhD graduate of the institution, earning a doctorate degree in Mathematics (Complex Analysis).
The convocation ceremony attracted politicians, academics, traditional rulers, captains of industry, staff, students and parents, while prizes and cash rewards were presented to outstanding graduating students.
